Winter Traditions in Ontario

People in Ontario love wintertime! So much so that there are a lot of events and activities to mark the season. If you are looking for a retirement home near you, this is one of the best places to consider in Canada.

Celebrating Winter in Retirement Communities

The start of the winter season means the start of celebrating the holidays in Ontario. Depending on what you celebrate, the holiday season can be months long, but December is the busiest month for many people. This means going through the usual holiday traditions we all know and love.

Many people take the afternoon off on December 24 (Christmas Eve) to do some last-minute shopping and prepare for Christmas Day.

On December 26, Ontarians are off to the stores for Boxing Day, the biggest shopping day of the year.

At Livita’s retirement communities, we do a variety of activities for our active seniors. From a scrumptious holiday meal to opening presents and watching holiday movies on tv. It’s always a fun and meaningful day for residents!

Exploring Ontario at Wintertime

Ontarians have a lot to look forward to for the rest of the winter season! There are plenty of winter traditions and activities happening around the province. Take a look at some of these and see if there’s one you or your loved one can enjoy near your retirement community.

1. Explore the Algonquin wilderness. This is an excellent experience for any nature-lover. Revel in stunning views and do some bird watching around the park.

2. Attend winter festivals. Ontario holds a wide variety of winter festivals. Some start as early as late November and end by February or March.

One of the most popular winter festivals is the Winter Festival of Lights. It’s Canada’s largest light festival that happens in Niagara Falls.

3. Another popular one is the Bon Soo Ontario Winter Carnival. It is held every February, in Sault Ste. Marie. This festival offers a lot of outdoor sports, events, and concerts for all ages.

See an outdoor ice hockey game. There are plenty of casual or organized games on frozen ponds all around Ontario during wintertime.
