Looking Forward to Spring Festivals in Oshawa, ON
Spring is something that our residents always look forward to! After spending a lot of time indoors during the winter months, we can finally comfortably go outdoors. We’re excited about warmer weather, bright, blue skies, and seeing beautiful greenery around our retirement home in Oshawa.
Another thing that we are waiting for is participating in the various events and festivals happening around the city. Here are 2 of our most-anticipated festivals:
1. Maple Syrup Festival
This is a festival held at the Purple Woods Conservation Area every year. It is hosted by the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority. It aims to showcase 400 years of maple syrup history in Ontario.
Typically, there are tons of activities during the festival for people of all ages. There are games, crafts, horse-drawn wagon rides, tours, and more
This year, however, they are doing it differently due to the ongoing pandemic. They are offering a free self-guided hike through the sugar bush at Purple Woods. You can also buy various maple products at the Heritage Store.
2. Oshawa Peony Festival
Every year, the City of Oshawa celebrates the Peony Festival at the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens. It’s a festival that honors horticulture, arts, and heritage.
The garden showcases over 300 varieties of peonies. Residents of our retirement community in Oshawa are always excited to witness hundreds of peonies in full bloom.
There are tours available around the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens. Tours in private peony gardens of the Canadian Peony Society are also available. You can get expert advice and demonstrations from the city gardeners! Plus, enjoy live music, cultural performances, and local food.

There’s a Butter Tart Festival happening in Bowmanville on the 23rd of April! Enjoy a taste of various local butter tart vendors and witness a tart-off competition.
